Saturday mornings Ladies County Fours final at the Oxford City and County club saw Carole Galletly, Pam Shepherd, Helen Young and Caroline Campion up against Jeanette Berry's City and County four. In a keenly contested game played in tricky conditions, the Central girls made a spirited comback before losing out to their opponents 19-24.

The afternoon Triples final was an all Central affair with Carole, Helen and Caroline playing against fellow clubmates, Mary Tee, Sue Waring and Mo Cox, proving to be too and taking the title with a 21-8 scorleine.


The remaining finals, due to played on the Sunday, were cancelled beacause of the poor weather conditions and have been rearranged to take place on Saturday 4th August, starting at 9am at the Oxford City & County club.


Last week's League games saw the "A" team play their rearranged fixture against Headington "A" at home on the Tuesday evening. Despite a strong showing in their top of the table clash Central lost by three rinks to one, but with a scoreline of 67-68. So near yet so far. Ian and Luke Gilbert, Les Campion and Will Campion lost 20-21, Chick Boyd, Andy Winter, Andy Wilkins and Keith McNeil lost 11-16 and Lee Young, Nick Spencer, Graham Morbey and Nigel Galletly lost 11-18. Central's winning rink of Dave Boneham, Mal Leather, Eric Trinder and skip Tom McKenna won 25-13.


The "B" team added ppoints and shots to their campaign to keep out of the relegation area with a home win against bottom club Oxford City & County "B", with a win on all four rinks for a 92-45 scoreline.

John Bone, Graham Tilbury, Ron Havard and Eric Trinder won 18-12. John Hart, Tony Smith, Jim Gow and Keith Williams won 20-16. Dave Boneham, Bob Wilkins, Mal Leather and Tom McKenna won 34-5 and finally, John Pardoe, Tony Carey, Ron Cox and Jim Pickering won 20-12.


On Wednesday evening, the ladies league team put their shock defeatto Carterton & Burford by responding with a strong performance at home against West Witney, winning 56-44 and collecting 8 valuable points.

Jenny Williams, Gill Hunt, Helen Young and Caroline Campion won 16-11. Eloise ones, Jane Williams, Pam Shepherd and Carole Galletly won 29-12. Mary Tee, Ann Norton, Mo Cox and Sue  Waring lost 11-21.


Earlier in the week, the ladies beat Leamington in a friendly at Horton View by 75-54 in a four rink triples match.

Eloise Jones, Tizzy Mueck and Pam Shepherd won 21-15, whilst Mo Cox, Bev McNeil and Sue Waring and also the triple of Jenny Williams, Jane Williams and Carole Galletly both won 20-11.June Bone, Mary Tee and Ann Norton lost 14-17.


In the mixed friendly away to Little Compton and played in very dry and warm conditions, Central lost 3 rinks to 1 with  a scoreline of 55-63. Jenny Williams, Dave Davies, Ian Gilbert and Keith Williams lost 11-16, Kay Oliver, Angie Price, Sue Winter and Graham Tilbury lost 14-17 and John Bone, Like Gilbert, Andy Winter and Paul Humphris lost 12-18. Cenral's winning rink at 18-12 was Eloise Jones, Tony Lawford, June Bone and Jim Gow.


Tony Allcock Trophy.

Central were involved in the later stages of the Tony Allcock Trophy on Monday evening against Stroud BC with the game being played on the neutral green of the Broadway BC in Worcestershire. The prize for the winner was a place in the last 8 of the competition, to be played at the end of the National Championships at Leamington.

The rink of Mary Tee, Brenda Havard, Tom McKenna and Nogel Galletly were involved in a close contest but found themselves 10-19 downwith 6 ends left to play.They managed to close the deficit to 2 shots, losing 18-20.

The other rink of Eloise Jones, Pam Shepherd, Graham Morbey and Keith McNeil were invloved in another close game, with the scores all square going into the last end. They managed to take the two shots to make it a draw and they were the rink that had to play the extra end. This was p;layed in semi darkness with Graham scooping up the jack to take the shot away from Stroud. Central held on to the shot to win the game and to book their place at Leamington on September 1st.
